What if you could analyze survey data yourself, using Excel, SPSS or R?
So, you have some nice, fresh survey data? Great! Now it’s time to get hands-on with your data.
Many survey researchers have colleagues who do the analysis for them. Others are on their own.
Either way, learning how to leverage current tools to get the most value from your data is absolutely within your reach.
- Work with a data analyst? Great. But wouldn’t it still be nice to be able to do some of your own analysis? You know how it goes: your reviewing the data analysis, writing your report, and you have that “aha” moment: “This result is interesting…but I wonder if I (create a new variable/reduced this data/tried this other crosstab), I might get an even more interesting result?” The ability to do some on-the-fly-analysis on your own, can be a fast, effective way to really explore your data. And amp up your report.
- Doing your own data analysis? Great. Would knowing a new tool help? Survey researchers have never had more options to get hands-on with their survey data. Did you know you can do t-tests, correlation and regression with Excel?

Did you know you can use RStudio to make R “friendly”? Did you know foundational SPSS skills can be learned in just a few hours? For most people, Excel and R are free—so that can be attractive. SPSS isn’t free, but many research teams standardize on it, so it may be “baked in” to your team’s process.
Learning Options for Excel, SPSS and R
You can get started with any of these tools using various free online videos on YouTube. And some of those videos are great.
If you want courses that use survey data sets to teach the data analysis functions, well, that’s where Research Rockstar has options. And our courses can all be taken with real-time, instructor-led formats, or on-demand.
Your choice. In either case, the course contents and homework assignments are based on survey data analysis. Not medical data. Not environmental data. Thus, our examples align with the actual tasks you will likely be doing for your work.
