A demographic variable is an attribute that describes a group of people, such as age range, ethnicity, gender, income, location (such as urban, suburban, rural), language, and marital status. We use demographic variables to describe and compare groups. Take this sample: “Our research finds that vacation destination preferences vary by age and marital status.” In this hypothetical, the researcher would then detail the demographic profile of high-interest people for each vacation destination type of interest.
