Meet Michelle LeGros, an insights leader who brings strategic and practical insights solutions to help organizations answer key business questions. Michelle has spent more than 25 years on both the client and supplier sides of insights & marketing research. She has built and led insights functions for Fortune 100 companies. She also has mentored countless marketing research, marketing and product development professionals across many industries in the art of insights & research. Michelle has executed hundreds of quantitative and qualitative projects across many methodologies. Some of her favorite experiences include launching customer experience/NPS programs, executing groundbreaking segmentation initiatives and conducting qualitative projects. Michelle was recently interviewed by Melissa Donovan.

MD: Hi Michelle, thank you for taking the time to speak with me. What has been your favorite part of your career?

ML: My favorite part of my corporate marketing research career has been the opportunity to teach and mentor my teammates and colleagues. I truly love to share with students the fundamentals of market research and how powerful market research insights is to businesses.

MD: What do you love about teaching?

ML: I love to tell stories—and I have a lot of them to share after a 25-year market research career in healthcare, financial services, CPG and more. I enjoy not only teaching the foundations of market research, but also bringing them to life with real examples from my career. For example, I am looking forward to sharing a story on a difficult healthcare project where I had to manage unexpected last-minute recruiting issues for focus groups we were holding. I hope my students will enjoy my stories and benefit from both the successful outcomes AND the mistakes I have made along the way.  

MD: What is something interesting about you that many people may not know?

ML: My passion in life is meeting people, hearing their stories and learning about their lives. My favorite way to do this is though travel. I feel most alive when I am exploring a new place. I have made this a focus of my personal and family life. I have traveled to over 50 countries and have taken my kids to five continents (so far!).

MD: How can taking MR101 help a market research professionals’ career?

ML: Many of us come to market research jobs from a variety of backgrounds—business/MBA programs, liberal arts backgrounds, marketing, sciences, math, etc. However we get here, many of us (including me!) had little formal marketing research training when starting our careers. That is what I love so much about Research Rockstar—the opportunity to gain technical expertise quickly along with real life examples from instructors. In my class, I will help my students build a strong foundation of technical expertise along with practical advice regarding how to apply it.
